Unexpected accidents or illnesses abroad may require urgent repatriation to one’s home country if local healthcare facilities and equipment are insufficient to treat the patient. If the patient’s condition is relatively mild, commercial flights like national carriers can be used. However, in critical or time-sensitive emergency situations, an appropriate means of transport is necessary, and that’s where the Air Ambulance comes in.

An Air Ambulance is an aircraft equipped with medical equipment and staffed by medical professionals, often referred to as a "flying emergency room." Unlike domestic helicopter-based services like “Doctor Helicopters,” Air Ambulances are used for long-distance, intercontinental transport and require business jets. Until now, no business jet in Korea has been utilized as an Air Ambulance.

In this context, Biz Insight, which operates the overseas patient transport service Flying Doctors, announced the establishment of Jet Prime Aviation on the 16th.

Founded in 2007, Biz Insight has provided medical, security, and insurance services to businesses and individuals both domestically and abroad. The company has offered high-quality repatriation services to Koreans overseas who were in danger due to serious illnesses or accidents. Flying Doctors is Biz Insight’s brand for overseas patient repatriation services.

Flying Doctors has handled most of the Air Ambulance cases in Korea, including special medical equipment installations, long-distance transport, and using multiple aircraft. The company has carried out a wide range of operations with its Air Ambulance services.

Jet Prime Aviation will directly operate Air Ambulance services under the strict oversight of Korea’s aviation authorities, removing concerns about aircraft safety and providing a more professional, cost-effective transport service.

A representative from Flying Doctors stated, “With the establishment of a dedicated Air Ambulance airline, Korea now has its own specialized Air Ambulance carrier. Our medical team can now carry the necessary medical equipment on our aircraft and fly directly to the location to transport patients back. This will significantly improve the safety of repatriation, which previously relied on foreign medical teams. Additionally, we can significantly reduce transport costs by shortening the route.”

Jet Prime Aviation has secured aviation professionals (pilots, aircraft maintenance engineers, and flight operations managers) who hold the required aviation certifications. They are currently preparing for airline registration and operational certification, with the aim to launch operations by the end of 2021.
